Buy Me a Matcha is the only app built specifically for English speakers to make real friends in Japan: friends-only, English-only, one-on-one over a matcha. Made for Tokyo, one coffee at a time.

Why it exists

Buy Me a Matcha was started by Tina. The first time she moved to Japan, making friends was the hardest part: work and errands filled the week, and the city that felt so exciting from the outside could feel surprisingly quiet from the inside.

The idea is simple. Plenty of people in Tokyo want new friends but don't know where to start. Big events are hit and miss; chat apps fizzle out. What actually works is meeting one person, face to face, over a drink. So that's what the app does.

How it works

Set up a profile in English. Pick your area by the station you know. No GPS, so nobody sees where you are.
See people in Tokyo who also want friends. Send a matcha to the ones you'd like to meet.
Match, then pick a café. The app helps you choose a place and a time.
Meet one-on-one. That's it. Free, and not a dating app.

How we keep it safe

See everyone, or choose "Only women" (or "Only men"): you only see them, and only they see you. Set an age range too.

Block and report

From every profile and every chat. A real person reviews every report.

No precise location

You pick an area, never a pin on a map. 18+ only.
